Patty & Cindy: Friends Focusing on Fitness
Tuesday, March 31, 2009
I've known Patty and Cindy for over 25 years now, and I must say that they are both amazing individuals. They became friends while working for the same company, and each never knew that I had a connection with both of them until years later. It was wonderful to see them grow closer and closer through the years, and I also love the fact that all three of us have sons the same age - so we can compare "stories!"

They both met me when I had severe weight issues – something that was very unfamiliar to each of them. I’m not sure if they realized how many different diet attempts I had gone through or how much I really weighed; but honestly, it didn’t really matter… they liked me for who I was and didn’t care that I was morbidly obese. But like most people who have a friend or relative that is extremely overweight, I’m sure that they did worry about my health at times, especially knowing that I had three children at home.
I’ve seen both Patty and Cindy go through some stressful times in their lives, one in particular that was caused by the passing of a family member (which I do not wish to go into detail about), but I will say that all of our lives changed, some much more than others. Each of us knows what stress can do…
A few years have gone by now and I am thrilled to know that Patty and Cindy, along with Cindy’s husband, Richard, made the decision to start walking and making healthier food choices in January 2009. They informed me that they walk at least 3 times a week and the pounds are falling off! I’m telling you right now that they look great… and they aren’t stopping now! With Richard and Cindy’s daughter’s wedding only a couple months away, they will be focusing on a healthy lifestyle, which will continue to include walking each week. They know that they want to feel and look their best for the big day – they have a full night of dancing coming up! So far, between the three of them, they have lost around sixty pounds! WOW!
And what I like best is that they are living healthy lifestyles now… they aren’t “dieting!” In other words: they aren’t planning on gaining back all the weight they lost once the wedding day is over and done with. They will continue to eat right and walk because they have each other’s support, and good health is very important to each of them.
You know, YOU can do what they are doing ~ and if you want to know exactly “how” they support each other, just ask them! Just leave a comment below and I just know they will respond honestly and quickly… what do you have to lose? (… pounds maybe?)

4/2/2009 11:07:08 AM Congratulations to both of you! What an inspiring story! You are so blessed to have Jodi as a friend too. She will help keep you motivated - I know I would not have been as successful as I was without her encouragement. Enjoy your new, healthy lifestyle, and enjoy that wedding. Congratulations!
4/4/2009 9:58:03 PM Thanks for the encouragement,Patty and I have been working very hard, along with my husband Rich. Patty also has an upcoming wedding for her son, in October, so there is a lot to celebrate this year along with our weight loss. Our son also graduates from high school the same weekend that our daughter gets married, so we are very busy, but we are making sure that we try to get our walks in, and eating healthy. You're right we have a good friend in Jodi, and she has helped a lot. Thanks again for the encouragement.
4/9/2009 11:09:37 PM Thank you Jon, Sorry it took me so long to get to see these responses, as you all know by now Cindy and I have been very busy helping plan these weddings this year. We both work and some times its very hard to set aside time for ourselves. The first time we tried on dresses for the weddings thats when we knew its time! to get some weight off! We are also watching what we eat, low cal, low fat, high in fiber foods. We also try to walk 2 miles which takes us 40 min. 2-3 times a week when we can fit it in. Thanks to Jodi we have been inspired to keep going and do what you can its better than nothing at all. We encourage you all to start your own healthy weight loss plan believe me you will all feel better within two weeks. Start out slow with walking like Cindy and I. Thanks so much!
4/14/2009 2:22:58 PM Hi again Cindy and Patty - Thanks for responding to my comment! I'm rooting for both of you, and I know you have the best "fan" possible right nearby...Jodi! I can't say enough good things about her and how much she helped keep me motivated as I walked off 230 pounds! It's great that both of you are so committed, and feeling the results of healthy living already. Believe me, once it becomes your "lifestyle for life" you will NEVER want to return to the old habits. God bless you both!
6/8/2009 7:59:21 PM Well, the wedding was beautiful, and so was our sons graduation. Patty and I worked very hard to make my daughters day special. And just look at Patty and I, I think our hard work paid off for the both of us also, as far as our weight loss. We had a great time, and we are still working hard at losing more and walking, because Patty has a son getting married in October. My husband, Rich, has been losing also, so it's been a team effort. Wish us luck for this weekend, the 3 of us are doing a 5k walk for weight watchers. God bless.
